The Space Industry (Indemnities) Act 2025, in force since 18 February 2026, requires every operator licence under the Space Industry Act 2018 to specify a limit on the operator's liability to indemnify the government. In September 2026 the government announced variable liability limits of £50 million, £20 million or zero for orbital operations licence applications received after 1 December 2026, depending on security and sustainability criteria.
